NBC Could Name ITV’s Deborah Turness Head of NBC News – Report

If named, Turness would be first female chief of U.S. network news unit

Speculation has begun to intensify that NBC will name Deborah Turness, the head of ITV News of Britain, as the new NBC News president, according to press reports.

An NBC News spokeswoman declined to comment. The New York Times reported Friday that NBC News could name Turness to replace former president Steve Capus as early as Monday. Such a decision would suggest the company might unveil Turness’s name during its upfront presentation, which is scheduled to take place Monday morning. Or the network might hold back so as not to risk having her announcement lost amid a sea of programming news.

Turness has been in the spotlight since The Los Angeles Times named her as a strong candidate for the NBC News job in April. If she were named to the post, she would be the first female head of a U.S. broadcast network news unit.
