An NBC News spokeswoman declined to comment. The New York Times reported Friday that NBC News could name Turness to replace former president Steve Capus as early as Monday. Such a decision would suggest the company might unveil Turness’s name during its upfront presentation, which is scheduled to take place Monday morning. Or the network might hold back so as not to risk having her announcement lost amid a sea of programming news.
Turness has been in the spotlight since The Los Angeles Times named her as a strong candidate for the NBC News job in April. If she were named to the post, she would be the first female head of a U.S. broadcast network news unit.
