Mun2 is set to head into the MMA ring with Bunim-Murray Productions.
The Hispanic cabler and Telemundo sister net has ordered 10 hourlong episodes of “Combate Americas,” slating the program for a 2014 debut. From Bunim-Murray’s Latin division (BMP Latin), “Combate Americas” is the first Spanish language Mixed Martial Arts competition reality series and will follow 10 pro Hispanic MMA fighters as they compete to win a coveted spot in the Combate Americas franchise.
Latin music duo Chino & Nacho will host the series alongside MMA journo Andrea Cale. Daddy Yankee will serve as the show’s first commissioner and radio host Piolin as color commentator.
“Mun2 is excited to continue to offer our viewers a look inside the sport of MMA,” said Diana Mogollon, Executive Vice President & General Manager, mun2. “No one has followed the world of Hispanic fighters through the process of making it into an MMA franchise, and we’re proud to be the first with this series from BMP Latin and Combate Americas. It’s an exciting series, with amazing stories of the challenges, struggle and victories that each fighter has endured to make it into la Jaula (the Cage).”
Combate Americas CEO Campbell McLaren added, “Combate Americas is the most exciting addition to MMA since the beginnings of the UFC 20 years ago. It was specifically created to present the best new Hispanic fighters and to introduce a whole new audience to this highly entertaining sport.”
Exec producers of “Combate Americas” include Jonathan Murray, Gil Goldschein, Gabriela Cocco-Sanchez, Julio Caro and Melissa Bidwell along with McLaren, Luisa Varona and Margie Moreno.
