Mike Darnell, former head of Fox’s alternative department, has set up his first major reality project since ankling Fox in May: an untitled haunted house show at ABC, with Jason Blum attached as exec producer.
Variety has confirmed that the project currently has a pilot order at the Alphabet and will deal with haunted houses, a seemingly endless area of focus for nonfiction cable nets, with Travel Channel, Syfy and others offering haunted house fare.
Blum, a prolific horror producer known for his work on the “Paranormal Activity,” “Insidious” and “Purge” franchises, will be exec producing through his Blumhouse Prods. banner. Warner Horizon Television is the studio behind the project.
After departing Fox, Darnell stepped into a new post at Warner Bros. TV, serving as prexy of unscripted and alternative programming. The position was specifically carved out for the noted reality exec, and Darnell told Variety in July that he hopes to delve into the cable and digital end of the unscripted biz while running alternative at the studio.
The Hollywood Reporter was first to report on Darnell and Blum’s project at ABC.
