Lance Armstrong to sit with Winfrey

Cyclist to chat on OWN special Jan. 17 about doping

Lance Armstrong is doing his first interview since being stripped of his seven Tour de France wins with Oprah Winfrey.

The cyclist, who has long denied using performance-enhancing drugs, will chat on Jan. 17 with Winfrey on OWN in a 90-minute special episode of “Oprah’s Next Chapter.” The interview will also be livestreamed on Oprah.com.

OWN would not confirm when or where the interview would take place.

Throughout his career, Armstrong has been accused of doping but has steadfastly denied the allegations. Last year the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency released a report saying Armstrong had, indeed, been taking drugs and banned him from racing professionally.

There have been reports that Armstrong will soon come clean about doping, but those have not been confirmed.

As a result of the ban and negative press, Armstrong resigned as chairman of the Livestrong foundation he created, which has raised hundreds of millions of dollars in the fight against cancer.
