Joy Behar to Exit ‘The View’

Co-host ankles to pursue new career options

After a 16 year tenure, Joy Behar will leave ABC’s daytime talkshow “The View,” the network has confirmed.

Behar’s contract is up in August and she has decided to not renew it, as sister site Deadline first reported. Alphabet has yet to tap a replacement.

Behar is one of the original members of “The View’s” cast, joining the program when it debuted in 1997. ABC stated:  “Joy Behar has been instrumental in the success of “The View” from the very beginning.  We wish her all the best in this next chapter, and are thrilled that we have her for the remainder of the season.”

Behar has seen much movement in the TV space over the last year and a half. In late 2011, her HLN skein “The Joy Behar Show” was cancelled after a two year run. Current TV then launched a show last fall in the same vein, “Joy Behar: Say Anything!” Status of that show hangs in the balance, however, as Al-Jazeera recently acquired Current TV and plans to dissolve the cabler in the coming months, rebranding it Al-Jazeera America.
