Project, which has a 10-episode order, centers on the Bahamian island of New Providence in 1715, where Blackbeard reigns over a rogue nation of thieves, outlaws and miscreant sailors. An assassin is sent to gain control and take down Blackbeard.
Malkovich, who most recently appeared in feature film “Warm Bodies,” has logged scant TV credits over his long career, mostly in the miniseries realm.
Neil Cross penned “Crossbones,” and is exec producing alongside Walter Parkes, Laurie MacDonald and Ted Gold. Series will be produced by Parkes/MacDonald Prods., Georgeville TV, Reliance Entertainment and Universal TV. Sierra/Engine TV will distribute the show internationally.
Principal production on “Crossbones” begins in June. The show was originally envisioned as a midseason entry for this season but was held up by casting and other issues.
