British thesp Janet Montgomery has landed the lead in “Salem,” the Fox 21 drama set to bow next year as WGN America’s first scripted series.

Montgomery, who starred in last year’s short-lived CBS drama “Made in Jersey,” will play a ruthless and vulnerable wife of a wealthy man in the drama revolving around the Salem witch trials of the 17th century. drama vet Xander Berkeley (“24,” “CSI”) has also been cast in a supporting role.

“Salem” was created by Brannon Braga and Adam Simon, who exec produce for Fox 21 with Prospect Park’s Josh Barry and Jeff Kwatinetz. WGN America fast-tracked the project with a straight-to-series order as it looks to branch out into original drama fare next year.

Montgomery is repped by UTA and Anonymous Content.
