It’s Official: Lisa Berger to Lead ABC’s Alternative Division

After news broke Friday that ABC’s reality chief John Saade is set to exit the Alphabet, the network has confirmed that E!’s former prexy of entertainment Lisa Berger will be stepping into the post.

Berger will serve as exec VP of alternative series, specials and latenight at ABC, overseeing the network’s slate of primetime programming that includes “Dancing With the Stars” and “Shark Tank,” as well as latenight player “Jimmy Kimmel Live.”

At E!, Berger developed and managed series including the “Kardashian” franchise, “The Girls Next Door,” “Chelsea Lately,” “Fashion Police” and “The Soup.” Berger, who has spend a decade at E!, announced her departure from the female-skewing cabler at the beginning of this year.

Berger has also logged years at Fox and did a 12-year run at MTV.

Berger’s Alphabet appointment is an interesting one, as her most prominent programming achievements have occurred at a net known for female demographics. As ABC is the most femme-driven network of the Big Four, the net could see the birth of more femme-skewing unscripted programs, in the vein of “The Bachelor” franchise or “Dancing With the Stars.”
