‘Breaking Bad’ Topples Hitler, Goes Viral with Hank and Marie Parody Videos

Miley Cyrus-related spoof triggers phenomenon

Not long ago, every low moment (subject to interpretation) in culture, high and low, big and small, became the target of Hitler’s anger in frustration in a series of parody videos based on the film “Downfall.”

But Hitler has been overthrown, by Hank and Marie from “Breaking Bad.”

Based on a critical scene (are there any other kind?) from Sunday’s “Bad” episode, the viral videos feature the characters played by Dean Norris and Betsy Brandt taking in something — almost anything — in horror. Like “Downfall,” their reactions can be tailored to almost anything. Unlike “Downfall,” you don’t need to write the dialogue. You just need to watch them watching things.

The pioneering moment for the new viral phenomenon played off Miley Cyrustour de farce at MTV’s Video Music Awards …

… but it just snowballed from there

… with all kinds of twists.

Perhaps nothing will quite be as clever as those “Downfall” parodies, but let’s face it, they had played out a bit. The same fate will no doubt befall Hank and Marie — at which point, I’m confident, we’ll see Hank and Marie watching Hank and Marie with horrified disgust.
