Former ‘Rome’ Actress Joins ‘Game of Thrones’

Indira Varma will play the love interest to "The Red Viper" next season

HBO has no problem working within the family when it comes to casting actors from past shows in current skeins, and it looks to have done it again with former “Rome” actress Indira Varma set to join the cast.

Varma will play Ellaria Sand, the love interest of another new character next season, Prince Oberyn Martell (aka “The Red Viper”) played by Pedro Pascal.

This isn’t the first “Rome” thesp “Game of Thrones” has poached from the series. Ciaran Hinds, who played Julius Caesar on “Rome,” joined the cast last season as the Wilding leader, Mance Rayder.

Game of Thrones” has had a busy off-season since its season finale on June 9. Besides several new castings, including “Doctor Who” actor Mark Gatiss, the show recently earned 16 Emmy nominations, the most among any drama series.

The show is currently in production for season four, which will bow next spring.
