FX Orders Billy Crystal Comedy Pilot ‘The Comedians’

Project from Larry Charles, Matt Nix and Ben Wexler hails from Fox TV Studios and Fabrik Entertainment

FX has given a pilot order to “The Comedians,” to star Billy Crystal.

Halfhour single-cam, based on a Swedish format, centers on a superstar vet comedian who is reluctantly paired with a younger, edgier comedian for a latenight comedy sketch show.

Project is from Larry Charles, Matt Nix and Ben Wexler and produced by Fox TV Studios. Creative trio serve as writers and exec producers on the project, along with Crystal. Charles is slated to helm the pilot.

“It truly is an honor to be in business with Billy Crystal and Larry Charles, two of the all-time greats in comedy,” said FX chief John Landgraf. “We have also wanted for some time to be in business with Matt Nix, who has done such an amazing job creating and running ‘Burn Notice.’  They, along with Ben Wexler, are an unbeatable team and we’re incredibly excited about this project.”

Mikkel Bondesen and Henrik Bastin are also exec producers, and Kristen Campo serves as co-exec producer through shingle Fabrik Entertainment.
