It’s 1:45 p.m. PT and E! has just wrapped its pre- pre-game Primetime Emmy Awards telecast with Giuliana Rancic and Kelly Osbourne at the Nokia Theatre L.A. Live.
E! crew members quickly struck the makeshift stage that took up most of the entrance to the red carpet. The Main Event is about to begin.
The velvet ropes are being positioned and yes, even a vacuum cleaner is hauled out for last minute touch-up of the carpet. There’s not much in the way of celebs for the fans in the bleacher seats to yell for — other than “Extra” host Mario Lopez who is getting the “who are you wearing” treatment from one particularly energetic woman.
Lots of praise for CBS, the presenting network of the Emmys this year, for going the extra mile with scaffolding and awnings providing much needed shade. Even on a day with temperatures in the mild mid-70s in downtown LA, that carpet has a way of getting steamy.
Emmy veterans like Showbiz columnist Jeanne Wolf are leisurely strolling the carpet and checking out the set up. “It’s just too human out here,” she joked, hoping not to jinx the weather.
