Emmy winners often come to the stage looking a little stunned, but Merritt Wever’s “I gotta go” reaction to winning for supporting comedy actress for her role as ditzy nurse Zoey Barkow on “Nurse Jackie” is one for the clip reel.
“It’s hard to do those,” she said of making a speech. “I don’t know how to feel yet. …. I have therapy next week.” It could have been a line from her character on the offbeat Showtime series.
The Emmy win will shine a spotlight on the thesp’s quirky career, which has been gaining prominence since she landed “Nurse Jackie” in 2009. She’s had an arc on “New Girl” last season and a guest shot last year on “The Good Wife.”
Thesp’s background is in theater the New York indie film scene (she was in Lena Dunham’s breakthrough “Tiny Furniture”) and theater. She’s known to have made a strong connection with Falco during their time on “Nurse Jackie.”
