Six months after rebooting its Paris-based division, Discovery Networks is further expanding in France, inking with Numericable.
The cabler will distribute Discovery Networks France’s Discovery Science HD and Discovery Channel HD from Thursday, airing shows including “Deadliest Catch,” “Mythbusters,” “Stephen Hawking’s Grand Design” and “How the Universe Works.”
Jerome Yomtov, Numericable deputy chief, said the channels will be available to subscribers across all screens, including tablets and smartphones.
Both webs joined Discovery Channel France last fall on satcaster CanalSat, with a new slate of licensed and original programming.
Nicolas Bonard, managing director at Discovery Networks France and senior VP of Discovery Entreprises Intl., said Discovery Channel is the leading factual channel in Gaul with more than 3 million viewers per month.
The company re-opened its Gallic office in July after pulling out in 2009.
Discovery Communications recently finalized its agreement with Gaul’s top commercial network TF1 Group to acquire a 20% stake in TF1-owned Eurosport, a pan-European sports broadcasting platform, and a 20% share of TF1’s four pay TV channels, Histoire, Ushuaia TV, Stylia and TV Breizh.
