Discovery Channel Names Denise Contis Exec Veep of Production and Development

Contis will oversee the west coast branch of the cable net

Discovery Channel has appointed Denise Contis exec vice prez of production and development, west coast. Contis will report to Discovery & TLC group prez Eileen O’Neill and be based in Los Angeles.

Appointment arrives after Nancy Daniels, who previously held the exec veep post, was upped to general manager of TLC.

Contis steps into the elevated position after serving as senior vice president of production and development at Discovery Channel, overseeing programming including “Skywire Live with Nik Wallenda” and “Naked and Afraid.” Before joining Discovery Channel, Contis was vice prez of production and development, west coast at Discovery’s sister network TLC.

She has been with the Discovery Communications family since 2008.

“Denise is a perfect fit for this position,” said O’Neill.  “Having worked on both Discovery and TLC, she’s a television executive who gets what both men and women of all ages want to see.  Her track record of bringing quality programming to the Discovery family speaks for itself.  I’ve worked with Denise for over six years now and I’m thrilled to grow this relationship and keep it going strong.”
