CBS Leads News and Documentary Emmy Award Winners

'60 Minutes,' 'CBS Evening News with Scott Pelley' lead Eye to dozen wins

CBS lead TV news hounds with a dozen wins at the 34th annual News and Documentary Emmy Awards, presented Tuesday night at Lincoln Center’s Frederick P. Rose Hall.

Half of CBS’ wins came for “60 Minutes” segments, including two for its “Killing Bin Laden” report and two for the “Joy in the Congo” report. The “Killing Bin Laden” seg  earned the best interview award for CBS News frontman Scott Pelley.

“The CBS Evening News with Scott Pelley” scored three trophies, including best coverage of a breaking story in regularly scheduled newscast for the “Fight for Idlib” report on the civil war in Syria.

BBC World News America took the honor for continuing coverage of a news story for its coverage of the Syrian strife. And the same issue earned PBS’ “Frontline” the award for coverage of a breaking story in a newsmag.

“CBS Sunday Morning” and “CBS This Morning” shared the investigative award for investigative journalism in a regularly skedded newscast for the “Exposing the Business of Congress” report.

Longform investigative award went to “Frontline” for the “Big Sky, Easy Money” report.

HBO took the arts and culture programming kudo for docu “Marina Abramovic: The Artist is Present.” HBO also won best docu for “Saving Face.”

The best writing laurel went to CNN’s Nick Paton Walsh for his reports from Syria and Afghanistan.

Lifetime achievement honors went to David Fanning, exec producer of “Frontline” since its debut in 1983.

PBS won a total of nine awards, followed by HBO (six), CNN (three) and National Geographic Channel and NBC with two apiece.
