Bearcage Snares Co-prod Deal With Beijing TV

'Cities' documentary to lens in China and Canberra

HONG KONG — Bearcage, the Australian equipment and production outfit, has signed an agreement with Beijing Television to co-produce two part documentary series “The Tale of Two Cities.”

The show will feature a photographer from Beijing who travels to Canberra to create an exhibition about the Australian capital and its people, and a photographer from Canberra who makes the reverse trip to Beijing.

A signing ceremony at the Sichuan TV Festival in Chengdu involved Michael Tear and Serge Ou of Bearcage; Chen Dali, director of Beijing Television Documentary HD Channel; Nancy Gordon, Australian Consul-General to China; and Chris Oliver, manager of state and industry partnerships at Screen Australia.

“As the first formal co-production between Beijing Television Channel and an Australian company, the project represents an initiative of great significance to both countries,” said Tear, executive producer, Bearcage.

The Australian company, best known for its full service video and post activities recently produced “Story of Australia,” (pictured) a documentary co-production with China Central Television’s CCTV9.
