Dawn Bridges, a veteran media-industry public-relations executive, has been named exec veep of corporate communications for Al Jazeera America, a spokesman for the network confirmed Tuesday.
Bridges, a former head of communications for both Time Inc. and Warner Music Group, Bridges has in recent years run an independent communications consultancy. “Joining an award-winning independent journalism organization that’s bringing an unbiased new voice to American viewers is a special opportunity,” she wrote in a communication to members of the press.
She will report to Ehab Al Shihabi, interim chief executive of the network. Al Jazeera America recently detailed plans to build out more bureaus, hire more journalists and expand its programming. The network recently gained carriage on Time Warner Cable, a distribution milestone that will put it in more viewers’ homes.
