Actor Hiroyuki Sanada Joins CBS Summer Drama ‘Extant’

Amblin TV/CBS TV Studios' Halle Berry starrer is prepping for summer 2014 run

“The Wolverine” thesp Hiroyuki Sanada has joined the cast of CBS’ summer fantasy vehicle “Extant,” toplined by Halle Berry.

Sanada will play a wealthy tech genius focused on privatizing the world’s space programs into a single entity. Series revolves around a female astronaut woman who struggles to reconnect with her family after a year in outer space, where she has experiences that will change the course of the world.

Extant” hails from Amblin Television and CBS TV Studios. CBS Corp. topper Leslie Moonves talked up the drama’s prospects as a companion for “Under the Dome” next summer during the Eye’s third-quarter earnings call this week.

Mickey Fisher wrote the pilot script on spec and is exec producing with Greg Walker, Justin Falvey, Darryl Frank and Steven Spielberg.

Sanada is a regular on Syfy’s “Helix” and has logged guest shots on ABC’s “Revenge” and “Lost.”
