ABC Orders Pilots From ‘Scandal’ Producers

“Scandal” writer-producers Jenna Bans and Peter Nowalk have each received pilot orders for their new shows from ABC, according to the network.

Bans’ “Sea of Fire,” from Sony Pictures TV, Scripted World and Mandeville, is based on the Danish show “Vuurzee” and is about the trouble that unfolds after three teens appear in a pornographic film. Nowalk’s “How To Get Away With Murder,” from “Scandal” creator Shonda Rhimes and Betsy Beers’ Shondaland and ABC Studios, centers on law students who become entangled in a murder plot.

Rhimes and Beers are also keeping busy; they will receive this year’s DGA Diversity Award on January 25 and Rhimes is penning her memoir, which is due out in 2015.

Variety sister site Deadline Hollywood broke the news of the pilot orders.
