Top German Cabler Inks News Deal With BBC

U.K. news web available to more than 35 million households across Germany

ODESSA, Ukraine — Germany’s largest cable operator Kabel Deutschland is make BBC World News available for free to subscribers across major parts of Germany. The channel will now be available in more than 35 million households across Germany.

Kabel Deutschland operates cable networks in 13 German federal states and supplies its services to approximately 8.5 million households.

BBC World News shows include “Hardtalk” with Stephen Sackur, public affairs docu strand “Our World,” cultural programming like “Art of Germany” and European primetime news program “World News Today.”

Colin Lawrence, distribution director, BBC World News, said: “Germany is an incredibly important market for both BBC World News and BBC.com, and this extension of our relationship with KD is a significant step forward for the business.”

Lawrence claimed that BBC World News has journalists in more places than any other global news channel. It has more than 70 bureaux around the world.

“BBC World News is trusted by audiences around the world to deliver high-quality, impartial reporting on the stories that shape our world,” he said.

The BBC claims it attract a weekly global audience of 256 million people to its international news services, including BBC World Service, BBC World News television channel and the news section of the BBC website, bbc.com.

The BBC news teams recently moved to new state-of-the-art broadcast facility in central London.
