LONDON – Hat Trick Intl. has secured distribution rights to dramedy “Nixon’s the One,” a five-episode skein starring U.S. satirist Harry Shearer as the late U.S. president.
Program is introduced by anchor David Frost, who conducted a seminal series of interviews with President Richard Nixon in the late 1970s.
“Nixon’s the One” was commissioned in the U.K. by satcaster Sky Arts HD from Hat Trick Prods.
Show bowed as a half-hour special on Sky Arts’ Playhouse Presents strand last year. The subsequent series is now in production and due to air on Sky Arts this year to coincide with the 40th anniversary of the Watergate break in scandal.
Laffer is written by Shearer and Stanley Kutler, and co-stars Henry Goodman (“Assassins”) as Henry Kissinger.
“Nixon’s the One” is a black comedy based on the more than 2,000 audio tapes secretly recorded by Nixon in the Oval Office between 1971 and 1973. Nixon resigned in 1974.
Hat Trick Intl. will sell the show at Mip TV in Cannes next month.
