BBC America and Canada’s W Network have greenlit new foodie docu series “Million Dollar Critic,” featuring Giles Coren, the funny controversial restaurant critic of “The London Times.”
The show, now shooting in cities across North America, will bring the caustic Coren, whose opinion is said to be worth as much as a million dollars to restaurants he favors, to North American eateries and auds in 2014.
“Million Dollar Critic” is produced by Toronto and L.A.-based Temple Street Productions.
Temple Street, which developed the series in association with Corus Entertainment’s W. is best known for its “The Next Step” series on Family Channel, “Being Erica” on SOAPnet and “Canada’s Next Top Model” on CTV.
MIP To Get Digital Mart Component
Mipcom and Mip TV organizer Reed Midem has announced a one-day mart dedicated to trading original online video programming and web series called the MIP Digital Fronts.
The MIP Digital Fronts, which are being touted as the first true international screenings dedicated to digital product, will take place next April 9 in the Cannes Palais des Festivals during the 51st annual Mip TV mart which will run April 7-10 2014.
Reed MIDEM came up with the concept following the success at MIPTV 2013 of YouTube’s original online content showcase, which was presented before a packed Palais aud of buyers and digital content strategists.
The MIP Digital Fronts will feature a full day’s programme of 45-minute curated screenings from world-renowned platforms, digital studios. and online channels. It will cover all types of original digital content, including scripted and unscripted series, shorts, formats, games, as well as animation and content targeting kids and young adults. The mini-mart will also feature on-stage interviews with the producers, creative executives and talent behind the content, rounded out by parties and red-carpet galas.
“Magic Malabi Express” Is Latest Israeli Format To Become a U.S. Pilot
Fox has picked up Israeli road-trip comedy format “Magic Malabi Express,” about three friends who travel to Brazil and set up a food stall where they sell a dessert that gets people high.
A U.S. pilot is being developed for Fox by 20th Century Fox TV to be produced by Shawn Levy (“Cheaper by the Dozen”) and Marty Adelstein (“Prison Break”) through 21 Laps Entertainment.
The show, distributed by Dori Media, was produced locally by Udi Segal and production shingle Sumayoko for Channel 10 in Israel. The format is based on a book by Miki Geva.
It has been rather popular on Israel’s Channel 10.
Dori Media Group just inked a similar pilot deal with CBS on another of its shows, “Little Mom.”
They also say they are in advanced talks to bring award-winning crime drama “New York”, to U.S. screens. “New York” was originally produced by Dori Media Darset. It has been aired on Israel’s ‘YES’ channel, where it became that channel’s most watched drama ever.
