Jim Henson, BBC Team on ‘That Puppet Game Show’

Shows to run in primetime Saturday evenings

The Jim Henson Company is working hand in glove with the BBC’s production unit, BBC In-House Entertainment, to produce “That Puppet Game Show” for Saturday primetime on the U.K. pubcaster’s flagship channel BBC1.

Each week two celebrities will feature on the show, which mixes comedy with madcap games. The celebrity contestants, who will be the only humans on the show, will go head to head in a number of games, each hoping to win £10,000 ($15,400) for their chosen charity. They’ll compete in subjects such as sport, science, celebrity, nature, music and mental agility.

Puppet character Dougie Colon, which the BBC said is pronounced “cologne,” will host the show, but each of the individual games will be hosted by a different puppet character.

“That Puppet Game Show” also includes a backstage sitcom, featuring both the puppet characters that are in the gameshow and other puppets, like the producer, Mancie, and the show executive, Udders McGhee.

Filming is underway and the show will debut later in the year. The series has eight episodes, each 45 minutes long.

Exec producers are Derek McLean for the BBC, Brian Henson for The Jim Henson Company, and Martin Baker from puppet experts Baker Coogan.

BBC Worldwide is handling international distribution.
