Dawn Airey To Run Yahoo Operations In EMEA Regions

U.K. TV veteran will take on role of senior vice president of Europe, Middle East and Africa from November

U.K. television veteran Dawn Airey has been hired to head up Yahoo’s operations across Europe, Middle East and Africa.

The former Channel 5, Sky and ITV senior exec is skedded to take up the role of senior vice president of the company’s EMEA region, effective from November 1.

She will report to Yahoo COO Henrique de Castro while Christophe Parcot, who had served as the company’s interim lead of EMEA, will take on a new role in the company, focusing on expanding business in the region.

Airey joins from pan-European broadcaster and producer RTL Group, where she was president of a unit at the company. Her hire at Yahoo reps the end of a long search for the company to find a replacement since Rich Riley left as part of a restructure in April 2012.

“Dawn is well known for her visionary thinking, operational discipline and leadership skills, and I can’t wait to work with her as we position Yahoo for growth throughout the EMEA region,” said de Castro.

“It’s great to be joining Yahoo, especially at such an exciting point in time,” said Airey. “To be part of the Yahoo renaissance was simply irresistible for me and I am very much looking forward to driving change, innovation and growth for the EMEA region.”

Airey has worked in television for 30 years and has held senior positions in the majority of the commercial broadcasters in the U.K. During her post at RTL, Europe’s biggest broadcaster which sold Channel 5 to Richard Desmond in 2010, she worked on projects including exploring a cable channel launch in the U.S.

Prior to RTL, Airey was managing director of global content at ITV where she oversaw its U.K. and international production and content businesses. Prior to that, she was managing director, channels and services at BSkyB.

She has also held senior posts at Channel 4.
