Ali Liebert: International Star You Should Know

Canadian thesp has a gift for mimicry and, in a pinch, she can do her own makeup

CLAIM TO FAME

The 31-year-old actress can leap from blonde bombshell to “Bomb Girls,” a Global TV drama where she plays a blue-collar factory worker.

BREAKING OUT

Liebert is known in her native Canada for “Bomb Girls” and CBC’s “Harper’s Island” (2009), and she’s just being discovered in the rest of the world. CBS aired “Island,” and she’s scored roles on Fox’s “Human Target” and films like Laurent Cantet’s French “Foxfire.”

A CHAMELEON

Her pastime is doing impersonations of Liza Minnelli, Britney Spears and Zooey Deschanel, among others. She’s working on adding Shakira to her repertoire. “I would consider myself to be a character actor. I love transforming.”

BEAUTY SCHOOL DROPOUT

While a struggling actress, she studied the art of makeup to be able to work on set. She dropped out when she landed a role, but does her own makeup for auditions — and red carpets.

SOCIABLE FILMS

Tired of playing the funny sidekick, Liebert co-founded Sociable Films to produce her own projects. The company is in post on improvisational pic “Afterparty.” “I have never worked so hard in my life, scrubbing down a location at 3 a.m. to get it ready for the next day, cooking for 30 people, doing makeup touchups,” she says. “We all wore a thousand hats.”
