Alfano to Lead NBCU’s Global Scripted Biz

LONDON — NBCU Intl. Television Production has tapped JoAnn Alfano as its Los Angeles-based exec VP, scripted programming.

Alfano will oversee the company’s global scripted biz, building on the success in the U.S., which includes the launch of “Camp” (NBC), “Motive” (ABC), “Family Tree” (HBO), “Newlyweds” (Bravo), as well as the upcoming “Dracula” (NBC) and season four of “Downton Abbey” (PBS).

Alfano will supervise the development and production of scripted programming across the NBCU Intl. Television portfolio of companies, including Carnival, Lucky Giant and Matchbox Pictures. She will also manage the division’s partnerships with Working Title Television and Lark Productions.

In addition, she will identify and develop new projects with the goal of bringing writers and producers from the U.S. to NBCU Intl. production entities. She will also be in charge of the expansion of the division’s Los Angeles office.

Alfano, who starts full time in late October, originally began her career at NBC. She returns to NBCU after serving as exec producer on the upcoming ABC drama “Resurrection,” which she developed in her previous position as prexy of television at Brillstein Entertainment Partners. Prior to that, she was head of programming for Lifetime and Lifetime Movie Network, where she oversaw all movies and series. Alfano also served as exec producer of the reality series “Project Runway” during its move from Bravo to Lifetime.

Before joining Lifetime Networks, Alfano was prexy of Lorne Michaels’ Broadway Video Television, where she developed and exec produced NBC comedy “30 Rock.”

While at NBC, Alfano served in numerous capacities including head of both drama and comedy development, as well as overseeing the production of numerous NBC shows, including “Will & Grace,” drama “Homicide: Life on the Street,” “Scrubs” and “Fresh Prince of Bel Air.”

Alfano starts consulting for NBCU Intl. Television Production effective immediately.

Division prexy Michael Edelstein said: “JoAnn is a triple threat. She is an Emmy Award winning producer, an experienced network executive, and her excellent relationships with broadcasters and talent are second to none.”
