Singapore to Get Hong Kong Entertainment Channel

Celestial Tiger harnesses digital platform to give cHK dual language launch

HONG KONG — Asian TV channel operator Celestial Tiger Entertainment will next week launch a new channel, cHK, focused on Hong Kong entertainment. Its first outing will be on SingTel’s mioTV platform in Singapore on Oct. 18.

Content is expected to range from movies and celebrity-driven infotainment to lifestyle shows and dramas not previously shown in Singapore.

The channel will make use of the flexibility of mioTV’s digital structure to offer the channel in high definition, with a Mandarin-language track suited to most of Singapore’s Chinese speakers, but also on demand in its original Cantonese as well. The on demand version will be available from Oct. 19.

Hong Kong is known for its exciting movies, television programs, food, fashion and bustling nightlife. With CHK we are packaging all this excitement into one contemporary, celebrity-powered channel, in high definition,” said Todd Miller CTE’s CEO.

Movie titles acquired include “The Guillotines,” and “Young And Dangerous: Reloaded.” Confirmed TV programming includes the channel’s own gossip show cExpress and Star Chatroom. It also has cookery show “Master Chef: Martin Yan” and crime drama “SFC in Action 1 and 2.

Hong Kong-based CTE was formed from the merger of Celestial Entertainment’s TV channels with Tigergate Entertainment and is backed by the U.S.’s Saban Capital Group. CTE also represents rights sales in Greater China and SE Asia for Lionsgate, as well as Lionsgate’s TV and film content in Japan and Korea.

Celestial previously operated another Chinese-language general entertainment channel WaTV. That was closed in March 2012.
