Icon Awards Given to Alan and Marilyn Bergman

UCLA’s Longevity Center awarded members of the medical and entertainment world alike at its annual Icon Awards on May 21.

The event at the Beverly Hills Hotel was emceed by Michele Lee, a last-minute replacement for Lisa Ann Walter. The actress made some light-hearted remarks about the elderly skewed aud, joking, “This is LA, so we all lie about age-wait.” Pause. “Why didn’t anyone laugh at that remark? Can you hear me back there?” she asked.

Paul Reiser garnered the biggest laughs of the night when he presented the award for artistic excellence to Alan and Marilyn Bergman, “They changed the whole way I view people who are 80. It pisses me off to see what they’re accomplishing at their age, but they’re who I want to be when I grow up,” said Reiser, who went on to compare their talent to that of Justin Bieber.

Alan Bergman accepted the award for himself and his wife, but instead of a speech he opted to deliver perfs of “That Face” and “What Matters Most.”

Tierney Sutton also performed songs written by the duo.
