Ellen Page and ‘The East’ Stars Travel West for L.A. Premiere

Stars of Fox Searchlight’s “The East” — including Alexander Skarsgard, Patricia Clarkson, Brit Marling and Ellen Page — gathered May 28 at the Arclight, where the talk was of the Occupy Wall Street movement. Remember Occupy Wall Street?
Page plays an anarchist who attacks the leaders of major corporations guilty of illegal and unethical practices.
“I think the movement is reflective of the frustration and anger that’s in our film that a lot of people are feeling right now and don’t know how to deal with it,” said Page, who admits that the movement has yet to effect much change. “It doesn’t always perfectly bloom and create change…. Obviously, the police intervened and said it’s OK to set up a tent on the sidewalk if you want to get an iPhone 4 the next morning, but apparently you can’t when you speak for social justice.”
Post-screening, everybody partied at Hollywood’s No Vacancy.
