Island Def Jam veteran Nicole Wyskoarko has been promoted to senior vice president of business and legal affairs, the Universal Music Group label announced today.

Starting at IDJ as an intern while still in law school in 2002, Wyskoarko  became vice president of legal and business affairs six years later, working with the likes of Rick Ross and Justin Bieber. She will continue to be based in New York, and will report to Steve Gawley, executive vice president of legal and business affairs for UMG’s East Coast Labels.

“Nicole is a team player and a rising star,” Crawley said in a statement. “I can’t think of anyone more qualified to lead business affairs for the Island Def Jam Music Group. Nicole has deep industry relationships and a knack for quickly navigating and closing the most complicated deals we encounter.  She is a proven closer.”

Last year, Wyskoarko received the Woman Behind the Music award from performing rights org ASCAP, and she is a founding member of the Black Women in Entertainment Law association.
