Amnesty Intl.’s Human Rights Concerts Collected in Box Set

Nov. 5 release coincides with 25th anni of org's benefits

Shout Factory has announced the Nov. 5 release of a six-DVD box set commemorating the 25th anniversary of Amnesty Intl’.s “Human Rights Now” benefit concerts. Proceeds from the set, titled “Release!,” will benefit Amnesty.

Drawn from largely unreleased footage shot at Amnesty’s 1986 “A Conspiracy of Hope” benefit and 1988’s “Human Rights Now” world tour (as well as a 1990 Chile date and a Paris benefit concert from 1998), the set features performances from the likes of Bruce Springsteen, U2, the Police, Miles Davis, Peter Gabriel, Jimmy Page and Robert Plant, Radiohead, Lou Reed plus Joni Mitchell.  Additional materials comprise new interviews with Springsteen, Sting and Bono, as well as Gabriel’s home movies from the ’86 tour.

Highlights from the set will be screened theatrically at the American Cinematheque in Los Angeles and New York’s Museum of Modern Art. A two-CD compilation of select performances from the concerts is also set for release.
