Goodman Theater Sets 2013-14 Season

World premieres, 'Brigadoon' on 2013-14 docket

World premieres by Rebecca Gilman and Seth Bockley, a new play by Tracey Scott Wilson, a new revival of tuner “Brigadoon” and a production of Mary Zimmerman’s “The White Snake” are among the titles on tap for the 2013-14 season at Chicago’s Goodman Theater.

As one of the more prominent regional theaters in the country, the company frequently draws the attention of Gotham legiters. This season it did it with a Diane Lane-toplined production of “Sweet Bird of Youth” that was talked about for a possible Rialto transfer, and later this year the company will produce Zimmerman’s staging of “The Jungle Book,” which Disney Theatrical Prods. has its eye on.

Goodman a.d. Robert Falls will helm Gilman’s “Luna Gale” (Jan. 18-Feb. 23), about a social worker’s relationship with two drug addicts who are part of her caseload, while Jessica Thebus will direct “Buzzer” (Feb. 8-March 9, 2014), Wilson’s tale of a rising African American lawyer’s trip home with his girlfriend and best friend along for the ride.

Bockley, who wrote the book to Off Broadway alum “February House,” lands at the Goodman with “Ask Aunt Susan” (May 22-June 22, 2014), about a guy who moonlights as an Internet advice guru. “Smokefall” (Oct. 4-Nov. 3), the play by Noah Haidle (screenwriter of “Stand Up Guys”) about to bow at South Coast Rep, also will play a stint at the Goodman, which teamed with SCR for the title.

Rachel Rockwell directs “Brigadoon” (June 27-Aug. 3, 2014), the 1947 Lerner and Loewe tuner that almost came to Broadway a few seasons ago in another production. Also on the Goodman docket is “White Snake” (May 3-June 8, 2014), which played at Berkeley Rep earlier this season, as well as stints for Rialto vet “Venus in Fur” and for “Pullman Porter Blues,” recently seen in Washington, D.C.
