Actors’ Equity Association, the legit actors and stage managers union, has received a national charter from the AFL-CIO as a mark of a formal association with the national federation of U.S. unions.

The presentation is the latest recognition conferred in recent months on Equity, which celebrates its 100th anniversary this year. Last year the union scored a special Tony Award in honor of its centennial.

Equity, with a membership of close to 50,000 pro thesps and stage managers, is the bargaining collective for stage labor contracts around the country, including the Broadway production contract used by every Main Stem title on the boards.

The union received the AFL-CIO charter during that org’s Executive Council meeting in Lake Buena Vista, Fla., thereby becoming one of 57 unions affiliated under the AFL-CIO.
