Hollywood as Emerald City

Global Green USA hosts pre-Oscar gala

Among the red carpets and the gold stars of Hollywood, green was the color of the evening as the Global Green USA’s 10th Annual Pre-Oscar Party brought out the big-name activists Wednesday night.

From the Chevy Volt, which chauffeured many of the celebs to the Avalon, to the organic food and liquor, every facet of the gala helped raise awareness to their cause.

“Our goal was to raise $400,000. we raised $430,000,” said Global Green’s Matt Petersen. “It’s been an amazing journey over the last decade. It started with putting celebrities in hybrid cars to go to the Oscars so w

e can popularize fuel-efficient vehicles. And then we added an event as a call to action. This year, I feel this is the pinnacle with having Willie Nelson play.”

The big-ticket item at the auction was Nelson’s guitar — and a chance to star in a PSA with the man himself — which went for $22,000.
Celebs looking to make a difference included Helen Hunt, Emmy Rossum, Johnny Knoxville, Ed O’Neill and Dylan McDermott.

“I had the good fortune of meeting Matt Petersen and seeing the work he did in the Congo, and then what he did in New Orleans and Hurricane Sandy,” McDermott said. “These guys are in the trenches and doing probably the most important work there is to do on this planet.”
