Chernin Entertainment recently acquired the rights and will produce along with Warner Bros., which will help fully develop, produce and distribute the film.
The Gumball 3000 is an annual British motor rally that covers 3,000 miles using public roads; the route is different every year. Founded in 1999 by Maximillion Cooper, the race is seen more as a road trip adventure than a true competition.
One source says the film would be a caper pic in the vein of “Ocean’s Eleven.”
Jesse Ehrman is overseeing for Warner Bros., and David Ready is overseeing for Chernin.
Chernin has had a busy year so far with “Oblivion” grossing nearly $300 million worldwide and “The Heat” becoming one of 2013’s big comedy hits with more than $200 million worldwide.
