Universal Sets Release Date for James Brown Film ‘Get On Up’

Film to open Oct. 17, 2014

Universal has scheduled James Brown pic “Get On Up” for Friday Oct. 17, 2014.

Pic stars “42” thesp Chadwick Boseman as the iconic soul singer. “The Help” helmer Tate Taylor will direct the film, which tells the life story of the man many called the Godfather of Soul. Pic follows Brown from his impoverished childhood through his musical career. Boseman most recently played Jackie Robinson in “42,” Warner Bros.’ pic about the legendary baseball player.

Brian Grazer and Erica Huggins will produce for Imagine Entertainment, while Mick Jagger and Victoria Pearman will produce under their Jagged Films banner. Taylor will also produce under his Wyolah Films label. Wyolah’s John Norris will exec produce with Trish Hofmann and Peter Afterman.
