New Line has tapped commercials director Dan Trachtenberg to helm its long-in-development sci-fier “Y The Last Man” with Chris Bender, Jake Weiner, JC Spink and David Goyer producing.

“Y The Last Man,” a comic book series by Brian K. Vaughan and Pia Guerra, ceners on Yorick Brown — the only human survivor of a planet-wide plague that instantly kills every mammal possessing a Y chromosome. Accompanied by a mysterious government agent and a brilliant young geneticist, Brown sets out in search of his lost love and the answer to why he’s the last man on earth.

The series began to be published by Vertigo in 2002. In 2007, New Line tapped D.J. Caruso to helm and Carl Ellsworth to write the comicbook adaptation.

The latest script has been written by the team of Matthew Federman and Stephen Scaia. Michael Disco and David Neustadter are overseeing for New Line.

Trachtenberg has shot spots for Lexus and Coke and made the short “No Escape” about the Portal videogame.

The short generated more than 11 million hits on YouTube. Trachtenberg is also attached to direct “Crime of the Century” at Universal with Chris Morgan producing and Daniel Kunka writing.

He is repped by ICM, Oasis Media Group and Gang Tyre.
