The deal for U.S. rights was closed at the Toronto Film Festival on Monday following two screenings over the weekend. ICM partners is selling the comedy for about $3 million.
In it, Allen returns to his Manhattan stomping grounds as a bookstore owner who becomes a pimp for Turturro, convincing him that there’s a fortune to be made in becoming a gigolo. “Fading Gigolo” carries the distinction of being one of the few films in which Allen appears as an actor but does not direct.
Bill Block’s QED Intl. came on board last year to produce and finance. Filming took place last fall in New York City.
