Taylor Swift Joins the Cast of ‘The Giver’

Taylor Swift is the latest addition to the cast of Phil Noyce’s “The Giver.”

The Weinstein Company and Walden Media’s adaptation of Lois Lowry’s 1993 YA novel stars Meryl Streep and Jeff Bridges. Streep will play Chief Elder, while Bridges will be the title character.

Brenton Thwaites, Katie Holmes, Alexander Skarsgard, Odeya Rush and Cameron Monaghan round out the cast of the dystopian drama.

Swift will play Rosemary, the last teen mentored by The Giver before he meets Jonas.

The multi Grammy-winning singer has already gotten her feet wet in the film biz. She had a small role in 2010’s “Valentine’s Day” and provided the voice of Audrey for “The Lorax.”

The film, which is written by Michael Mitnick, will start filming in Cape Town on Oct. 7. It’s set to hit theaters on Aug. 15, 2014.

    Film Review: 'The Courier'

You don’t expect subtlety from a movie whose very first second consists of the heroine getting a fist to her face, or whose poster suggests the real “star” is her leather-clad posterior. Still, a bagful o’ hammers might provide exactly the same amount and type of entertainment value as “The Courier.” This stridently dumb action [...]
