Sony is going back to school moving forward with a sequel to its 2011 raunchy hit comedy “Bad Teacher,” with Jake Kasdan returning to direct. Pic is being developed for Cameron Diaz, though the studio has yet to sign a deal with her.
“We love Justin’s take on the material — it hits all the notes that made the first film such a breakthrough hit and also takes the characters in a new direction that is fresh and fun,” said Columbia Pictures’ prexy of production Hannah Minghella, who made the announcement with Col prexy Doug Belgrad.
The first “Bad Teacher” made $216 million worldwide, crossing the $100 million Stateside mark. Also, CBS recently announced it will develop a half-hour TV series starring Ari Graynor slated to air next season. The series, from Sony Pictures Television and CBS Television Studios, received a 13-episode midseason order.
Kadsan currently is in pre-production with Diaz and Jason Segel on “Sex Tape” at Sony.
