In an effort to realign its domestic distribution operations, Sony has upped 25-year vet Adrian Smith to prexy of domestic distribution for Sony Pictures Releasing. The studio also named Adam Bergerman and John Spinello to assistant general sales manager posts. Both will report to Smith.

“For nearly 25 years, Adrian has helped to make our domestic team the best in the business,” said Sony prexy of worldwide distribution Rory Bruer. “He is one of the most savvy and skilled sales executives in our industry.”

Prior to joining Sony, Smith managed the Western district for TriStar Pictures in 1989. He was named senior VP and Western division manager for Sony Pictures Releasing in 2000 before being promoted to Sony’s exec VP and general sales manager in 2011. Smith began his career at Mann Theaters in Westwood in 1976.

Spinello, meanwhile, started at Sony in 1997 as managing director for the studio’s Eastern sales division; Bergerman began as a booker for Sony’s Eastern division in 1996.

“Adam and John collectively bring over 30 years of experience to the company — both have been with us since the mid-1990s and have played key roles in building all of our key franchises,” Smith said. “I feel privileged to work with such a dynamic and experienced distribution team.”
