Shailene Woodley to Topline ‘The Fault in Our Stars’ for Fox

Josh Boone helms adaptation

After landing lead roles in both “The Amazing Spider-Man 2” and “Divergent,” Shailene Woodley is ready to return to literary fare as the actress is set to star in Fox’s “The Fault in Our Stars.”

Woodley had been long rumored for the part but the scheduling had to be worked out with her other projects. Josh Boone is on board to direct the adaptation which is based on the book by John Green.

Story follows two young cancer patients who fall for each other during treatment.

Scott Neustadter and Michael Weber adapted the script with Temple Hill Entertainment’s Wyck Godfrey and Marty Bowen producing.

“During our exhaustive search to find Hazel Grace Lancaster, I saw some stunning auditions by today’s finest young actresses,” Boone said. “Over 250 girls read for the part, but it wasn’t until Shailene stepped in front of the camera that I truly saw Hazel for the first time.  It was like lightning striking.  I can’t wait for the rest of the world to see what I have.”

Before landing lead roles in big-budget tentpoles like “Divergent,” Woodley broke out with her role in “The Descendants,” which earned her a Golden Globes best supporting actress nomination.

The Paradigm, Principato-Young and Savage Agency-repped Woodley can be seen next in the A24 pic “The Spectacular Now.”
