No stranger to tackling stories with a supernatural feel, “Pirates of the Caribbean” scribe Stuart Beattie will adapt fantasy bestseller “Daughter of Smoke and Bone” for Universal.
Joe Roth is on board to produce through his Roth Films with its prexy Palak Patel exec producing.
Based on the book by Laini Taylor, the story follows an art student who embarks on an unusual quest where she encounters unexpected ethereal spirits.
Vice president of production Maradith Frenkel and creative executive Sara Scott are overseeing the project for Universal.
The book was a highly sought-after property when it was put on the market last year and with Roth and Beattie now attached, it’s clear Universal views this as a tentpole property with franchise potential.
Beattie is repped by Resolution.
