While things may not have worked out for Nancy Meyers on her untitled wedding movie at Sony, things seem to be looking up for her with another pic: Robert De Niro and Reese Witherspoon are in negotiations to star in her film, “The Intern.”
Meyers has been attached to direct the pic for some time when it was at Paramount, where the film was eventually put into turnaround. Meyers has now returned to the project with plans to move forward with it.
Story follows the owner of a successful fashion website who bonds with the elderly intern her company hires. De Niro will play the intern.
Scott Rudin is producing with Worldview Entertainment financing and producing the pic
Meyers will now find a new studio for the film with several in the mix.
The CAA repped De Niro can be seen next in David O. Russell’s “American Hustle.” Witherspoon, who is repped by CAA and LBI Entertainment, is currently filming Fox Searchlight’s “Wild.”
