Michiel Huisman (“World War Z,” “Treme”), W. Earl Brown (“The Lone Ranger”), Gaby Hoffman and Kevin Rankin have joined Reese Witherspoon in Fox Searchlight’s “Wild,” which has started shooting in Oregon.

“Dallas Buyers Club” helmer Jean-Marc Vallee is directing “Wild,” based on Cheryl Strayed’s book recounting how she hiked 1,000 miles alone on the Pacific Crest Trail following years of destructive behavior in the wake of the dissolution of her marriage and her mother’s death.

Witherspoon came on board the project in mid-July with Searchlight acquiring rights to Nick Hornby’s adaptation of Strayed’s N.Y. Times #1 best-seller.

“Wild” is produced by Witherspoon and Bruna Papandrea through their Pacific Standard banner with River Road Entertainment’s Bill Pohlad. Exec producers are Hornby, Bergen Swanson and Nathan Ross, Vallee’s producing partner.

Thomas Sadoski (HBO’s “The Newsroom”) joined the cast last month.
