‘Peanuts’ Animated Movie Heats Up With Paul Feig Producing

Film is set for Nov. 25, 2015 release

Paul Feig will produce and oversee an animated “Peanuts” movie for Twentieth Century Fox Animation and Blue Sky Studios.

The move comes a year after Fox acquired the feature film rights to Charles Schulz’s iconic strip and set a Nov. 25, 2015 release. Fox also announced at that point that “Horton Hears a Who!” and “Ice Age: Continental Drift” helmer Steve Martino had been hired to direct the toon.

Schulz’s son and grandson, Craig and Bryan Schulz, are writing the script with Cornelius Uliano. All three will produce.

The “Peanuts” comic strip has been syndicated in 75 countries, and inspired television specials including “A Charlie Brown Christmas” and “It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown.” “Peanuts” features have included 1977′s “Race for Your Life, Charlie Brown”and 1972′s “Snoopy Come Home.”

Schulz launched the comic strip in 1950 and died in 2000.

Feig signed a first-look deal with Fox earlier this year via his Feigco banner. He directed and exec produced “The Heat” and is prepping spy spoof “Susan Cooper” for Fox with Melissa McCarthy starring in his third teaming with the actress following “Bridesmaids” and “The Heat.”

“Growing up, Peanuts was my Star Wars,” Feig said. “Charles Schulz’s characters influenced everything in my career, especially ‘Freaks And Geeks.’ I’m thrilled I finally get to be pals with Charlie Brown and Snoopy.”

Fox chief Jim Gianopulos drew attention to “Peanuts” during April’s CinemaCon convention for exhibitors. “We will bring those beloved characters to audiences around the world,” Gianopulos said of the classic comicstrip kids.

Variety sister site Deadline Hollywood first reported Feig coming on board to produce this project.
