Nick Kroll to Host 2013 Gotham Independent Film Awards

Actor-comic will emcee the 23rd annual night of indie honors in December

Nick Kroll, the comedian-scribe-thesp who toplines Comedy Central skein “Kroll Show” and also appears in FXX series “The League,” has been tapped to host the 23rd annual Gotham Independent Film Awards.

Presented every year by New York-based Independent Film Project, the Gotham Awards are one of the first kudo ceremonies of awards season, and have in the past given early honors to projects and creatives that have gone on to become major contenders. This year’s nominations are led by Fox Searchlight release “12 Years a Slave.”

Kroll follows in the footsteps of last year’s host, Mike Birbiglia, another comic-thesp. Kroll, who scored an award for breakout comedy star at this year’s Just For Laughs fest, has a list of film credits that includes “Little Fockers,” “Dinner for Schmucks” and “Date Night,” among others.

This year IFP has expanded the star power of the Gothams with the addition of best actor and actress categories; in prior years, only a single “breakout actor” of either gender was honored. Also on the ceremony’s plate are tributes to industry honorees including thesp Forest Whitaker, helmer Richard Linklater and Katherine Oliver, topper of the New York City Mayor’s Office of Media and Entertainment.

The Gothams are set for Dec. 2 at the Cipriani Wall Street in downtown Manhattan.
