Melissa McCarthy May Play Female James Bond in Comedy

Feig directing, producing 'Susan Cooper'

Melissa McCarthy may re-team with Paul Feig as a female spy in “Susan Cooper,” Feig’s follow-up to “The Heat. “

The actress is in talks to topline the Fox project, the studio confirmed.

Feig began working on “Susan Cooper” as a comic version of  James Bond five years ago after seeing “Casino Royale.” He subsequently directed McCarthy in “Bridesmaids” and “The Heat,” which has grossed $156 million worldwide in less than a month.

Feig will direct and produce through his Feigco Entertainment shingle, which signed a first-look deal with Fox earlier this year.

McCarthy has been shooting road-trip comedy “Tammy,” which Warner Bros. has dated for July 2, 2014.  The New Line project stars McCarthy, Allison Janney, Susan Sarandon and Mark Duplass; McCarthy is co-directing with spouse Ben Falcone. McCarthy and Falcone are also producing from a script they co-wrote.

The web site The Wrap first reported McCarthy’s attachment to “Susan Cooper.”
