Magnolia acquires ‘Best Man Down’

Cast includes Justin Long, Jess Weixler, Frances O'Connor

Magnolia Pictures has acquired North American rights to Ted Koland’s comedy “Best Man Down.”

Magnolia plans a summer release through its Ultra VOD program, debuting the film on all VOD platforms a month prior to its theatrical release.

Cast includes Justin Long, Jess Weixler, Tyler Labine, Addison Timlin and Frances O’Connor. The film was produced by David Abbitt, Jen Roskind and Sharyn Steele and financed by Koda Entertainment.

Story starts with an obnoxious best man (Labine) who unexpectedly dies at a destination wedding in Phoenix. The bride and groom (Weixler and Long) are forced to cancel their honeymoon and fly home to the snowy Midwest to arrange for his funeral.

Deal was negotiated by Magnolia’s Peter Van Steemberg with Preferred Content and Gersh on behalf of the filmmakers.
